Yves Saint Laurent: The Rebellious Haute Couture Powerhouse

Inspired by Alice Rawsthorn’s daily diary posts on Instagram, I was challenged to transform her insightful and poetic reflections into a fully realised publication. The project brief was to capture the essence of the legendary Yves Saint Laurent himself using illustration instead of traditional photography or images to tell the story of his life and legacy.

Our task was to channel the spirit and vibe of YSL, reflecting his creativity, boldness, and timeless elegance. By using illustration as the primary storytelling medium, we explored abstract and symbolic ways to convey the emotions, milestones, and influences that shaped his career and personal journey.

The publication was designed to feel intimate and artistic, balancing Rawsthorn’s written words with visuals that invite readers to experience YSL’s world in a fresh and imaginative way. This project challenged me to think beyond conventional design methods and to embrace illustration as a powerful tool to evoke narrative and atmosphere.
